FoodWaste – Less Waste, More Profit

FoodWaste is now also available in the mobile app and replaces sticky notes in the kitchen with just a few clicks! With the mobile app and the web-based FoodWaste Report, you can track and analyze food waste to effectively reduce waste.

What is FoodWaste?

Food waste is defined as all food produced for human consumption that is thrown away on its way from the field to the plate.

According to the Thünen Institute, around 1.36 million tons of food are thrown away every year in primary production in Germany alone. If you add the entire food chain, including processing, retail and out-of-home catering, this amounts to 5.71 million tons per year. The same amount is again calculated for all households, so that we can assume a total of almost 12 million tons of food waste per year.

Remarkably, about half of this could theoretically be avoided along the food chain.

Let us show you how you can take the first step in the fight against food waste with FoodNotify:

What is the added value of FoodNotify in reducing food waste?

FoodNotify web and mobile versions offer a 180 degree analysis of food waste. Here are the details:

How and where do I track my food waste?

In the new app version 9.0.0, FoodWaste is clearly visible on the dashboard and in the menu. Once you click on it, you will be taken to the "ADD NEW FOOD WASTE" screen. Here you can now search for the same items that are visible under the "MY PRODUCTS" menu section.

Certain items are not showing up in the search, why is that?

Only items that are actually in stock can be recorded as FoodWaste.

This means: If the stock dot is either red, yellow or green, the item will be found in the search. As long as the stock item is still gray, the item needs to be imported first. Once it is imported, it will be colored accordingly and can be searched for.

What reasons can I choose from when recording food waste?

The following reasons can be selected: breakage, spoilage, raw waste.

How do I record FoodWaste correctly?

1. Click on FoodWaste in the dashboard

2. Search for your item that you want to record as breakage, spoilage, or raw waste

3. Click on Add

4. Enter the quantity and the available unit

5. Select the reason

6. Optionally you can add a note: e.g. An egg fell down while carrying products to the kitchen

7. Click on “Add to Wasted List”

8. You will be redirected to the Waste List where your entry is now visible

9. Done!

To illustrate this, we have created a video that shows all the steps described:

What are the benefits of the Waste List?

The WASTE LIST screen shows what food has been recorded in the last 24 hours, by whom, and for what reason. This gives you a better overview of individual shifts, areas, food and reasons for food waste.

How long do wasted items remain visible in the Waste List?

For 24 hours, daily from 00:01-23:59.

Please set the correct time zone in the mobile app under Settings!

Europe/Vienna (GMT+02:00) is the automatic setting.

How is the FoodWaste Report different from the Waste List?

Entries in the mobile app are immediately visible in the web app under ERP / FoodWaste Report.

After the entries in the mobile Waste List disappear after 24 hours, the same entries are still visible in the FoodWaste Report in the web application.

As an admin, you can also filter the FoodWaste Report by reasons, date range, and commodity groups to get a better overview:

Alternatively, you can also record FoodWaste in the web app. To do this, go to “Products” in the ERP, click on the three dots next to the respective product, select “Edit products”, then “Lager” and finally “Take from stock”.
